The H Streator Story

H Streator: A Brief History

My beloved father, Harry Streator Morrison Jr., was the consummate music man. A professor of voice and opera for over 50 years, he believed in doing what you love, to the best of your ability.  He is the inspiration for H Streator.

When Harry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I began to research safer and better quality products & ingredients to put in and on my body.  As my research progressed, I worked to develop natural and safe aroma-harmony, bath, and body products for a healthier body & soul.  Soon after, family and friends were frequently sampling these new creations.  A couple years later, a small home-based aroma-harmony, bath, and body shop was born.  H Streator has recently opened a retail site, in addition to an online store.

At H Streator we use mainly natural and organic ingredients to make small batches of quality products.  We stay away from chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate, mineral oil, paraffin, and petroleum.  Our preservatives are paraben-free and our colorants are all-natural.  While we suggest using our products unscented or scented with pure essential oils, when we do use fragrance oils at H Streator, you can be sure they are phthalate-free.

Understanding Aroma-Harmony

Aroma-harmony is the art and science of using aromatic essential oils that are produced from a number of healing plants. Either inhaled or applied to the skin, these essential oils are believed to bring positive effects to the mind, body, and soul.

French perfumer and chemist, René-Maurice Gattefossé coined the term "Aromatherapie" in 1937, but the practice goes back much further. For over 5,000 years, Ancient Egyptian priests used aromatherapy oils during religious ceremonies and for antiseptic purposes. Over 2,500 years ago, Hippocrates recommended aromatic baths for overall health and well-being. And during World War I, French soldiers were treated with essential oils to heal wounds and treat anxiety & depression.

Aromatherapy has been studied & employed for centuries in connection with improving short-term health issues, as well as treating more serious health problems. More recent studies have shown essential oils to have positive effects on the immune & central nervous systems, while also stimulating, sedating, and even having positive effects on emotions & behaviors. Generations of healers have learned to utilize the nurturing properties found in nature to enhance both physical & emotional well-being.

A variety of plants & plant components contain an array of beneficial elements as a source of self-preservation (protecting themselves from attacking microbes & parasites). These concentrated compounds are retrieved from the plants through processes such as distillation or direct pressure to become essential oils. Due to their concentrated nature, essential oils used in aromatherapy are most often blended with a "carrier oil", such as sunflower, coconut, hemp, or argan before being applied to the skin.

Not Just Music To Your Ears...

Recent theories & research on our sense of smell propose that natural smell characteristics are due not only to molecular shape & size, but also vibrational frequency. And so—like our ears—our noses are "listening" and responding to the acoustic vibrations of aroma molecules. Just like in the musical world—which was Harry's life—where vibration is key, so it is in the world of aroma-harmony.

Join us here at H Streator on a vibrational journey to harmonize with nature, and nurture your mind, body, and soul.
